Well, not to worry, we're here for you! Look for the EasyWriter box on the page where you add your headline, and just click it. We'll help you write a great headline.

When people look at search results, they’ll pick what to click on based on your photo, screen name and headline. Search results are your chance to get people to say “hi” to you. They’re your opening sales pitch!

When your headline’s missing, it looks like you’re not proud of the product you’re selling – you. And we know you’re fabulous!

So, either try EasyWriter (see above) or try this: . There are four basic rules for headlines:

  1. Have one – it’ll get you seen.
  2. Avoid clichés. Write something that will make readers stop.
  3. Don’t make your headline the same as your screen name.
  4. Let your headline say something about you, not about them.

What not to write:
When you're searching how many times have you seen a version of one of these cliché headlines?

“Looking for…”

  • Looking for a friend & companion
  • Looking for Ms. Right
  • Looking for a great woman

People already understand why you’re here. You don't need to tell them that you're looking.

“See me”

  • Check me out!
  • Here I am ...
  • This is me

Stating the obvious doesn’t tell more about you. Be more specific.

Generic greetings

  • Hi!
  • How are you?
  • Good day

These seem like conversation starters, but they’re used by too many people to stand out from the crowd. Don't choose them.

How to make them stop on you:

Let your headline reflect your personality. If you’re funny, be funny. If you’re earnest, be earnest. If you’re smart, be intellectual. Let’s look at why these actual TRUE headlines work:

Breasts. And now that I have your attention …
This funny headline is fun, and it’s all about fun when you’re meeting people online. The challenge here is to grab the crowd’s attention and get them interested in knowing more about you, even if it takes a sexy word to do it.

Great Googley Moogely
This headline is just funny and so unexpected. This will definitely make someone stop and laugh, and of course want to read more. Getting people to stop is good.

Why are you still looking in that haystack?!
Since this member is named “yourneedlehere,” this one is smart and funny. It’s very original and that’s what people like – something different. Again, it makes you stop.

Crazy Man Frees Baby Octopus from Zoo!
Did he really? Well of course not silly, but it still made me stop. Wouldn’t you?

Chef looking for that special young lady to cook for!

Now, this is one that all women will want to stop at, not only do you know the man likes to cook, but he is caring as well. As women we can get a lot from this headline: he’s caring, nice, great cook and needs someone to cook for. Perfect!

Chi-town Spartan
Headlines that work don’t have to be long. In two (well, maybe two and a half) words, this man says where he lives and that he’s proud of where he went to school.

Anyone out there agree that lust is only for use in love?
If you’re the earnest, serious type, try a values statement. If you don’t get much response from it, try a different one. There are lots of fascinating facets of you!

Other headlines that caught my eye:

  • Perfectly undiscovered abnormality of modern western humanity
  • You attract people by the quality you display
  • Conjunction junction, what's your function?
  • My mind is a terrible thing to waste
  • Interested in Interesting
  • Dating again ... Like riding a bike?
  • Assigned reading. Pop quiz to follow.
  • Rage Against the Tyranny of Solitude (also kinda funny, and a play on a rock band’s name)
  • Elvis plays cards with Bigfoot!
  • Wild, Wicked, Worldly, Well Versed, Well Off & Wanting
  • Sentimental Idiot Seeks Magic Carpet Riders w/ Board-Certified Landing Techniques

So now that your headline is irresistible, send a wink or an email to someone you've had your eye on – or better yet – check out one of True’s chat rooms and see what people think of your new self.
