TRUE is committed to safer dating. We can't guarantee that felons, sex offenders and married people won't get on our site, but we can guarantee that they'll be sorry they did.
Before a member is allowed to communicate with other TRUE members, we screen for U.S. felony and sexual offense convictions — using one of the largest criminal records databases on the Internet. Anyone with a felony or sexual offense conviction recorded in these databases is prevented from communicating with TRUE members. Review the current list of covered jurisdictions.
We require that members provide their legal first and last name, as well as their date of birth (they must also certifiy that the information they provide is correct). We also resubmit a member for screening if he or she attempts to communicate with another member and it has been more than 90 days since the last screening.
We turn away tens of thousands of felons, sex offenders and marrieds who, despite our warnings, try to communicate with our TRUE members. At TRUE, we take our members' safety seriously. We don't want felons , sex offenders or marrieds on our website, period.
Remember, though: No system of dating is totally safe, including our online relationship site; YOU HAVE THE FINAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY!
Criminal background screenings are not foolproof:
- They may give members a false sense of security.
- They are not a perfect safety solution.
- Criminals may circumvent even the most sophisticated search technology.
- Not all criminal records are public in all states and not all databases are up to date.
- Only publicly available convictions are included in the screening.
- The screenings do not cover other types of convictions or arrests or any convictions from foreign countries.

If you are married and representing yourself as single, or if you are a convicted felon or sex offender, be aware that you could be guilty of fraud and subject to civil and criminal penalties under U.S. federal and state law. For example, Title 18, Section 1343 of the U.S. Code authorizes fines of up to $250,000 and jail sentences of up to five years for each offense. TRUE reserves the right to report violators to appropriate law enforcement authorities and seek prosecution or civil redress to the fullest extent of the law. If you are married, a convicted criminal or sex offender, please close your browser. |
If you are a felon, sex offender or married, DO NOT use our website. Consider this to be fair warning: Our Member Safety team vigorously pursues individuals who misrepresent themselves on our website. We report violators to appropriate federal, state and local authorities, including parole boards. We also actively pursue prosecution of these offenders in other ways. For example, we recently took the unprecedented step of filing a lawsuit in federal court against a convicted felony sex offender from California who applied for membership with TRUE and accessed TRUE’s database in violation of TRUE’s policies. The dispute was resolved by agreement, the terms of which require the sex offender to: (1) cancel his existing memberships and refrain from using TRUE.com and other companies in the online dating and relationship industry; (2) complete a community service obligation; and (3) pay damages to TRUE.
We make it clear that married people, felons and sex offenders are not welcome. TRUE.com's User Agreement, Section 5 specifically states, "5. Code of Ethics. I agree to adhere to the TRUE Code of Ethics and certify that: I have never been convicted of a felony or any criminal offense characterized as a sexual offense. (This certification will be verified through TRUE's criminal screening). I am not married. (This certification may be verified for U.S. citizens). I will be truthful, accurate and complete in the information presented in my Personal Profile."
WE CAN'T GUARANTEE THAT CRIMINALS CAN'T GET ON OUR SITE, BUT WE CAN GUARANTEE THAT THEY'LL BE SORRY THEY DID. Disregard this warning at your peril.
If you're married:
Married individuals who attempt to join TRUE.com are in direct violation of their agreement with TRUE.com. We will shut down the account of any member who's discovered to be married – including those who are separated or have divorces pending. We report married people to the Internet Crime Complaint Center — the IC3 — which is a partnership between the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center. We turn married people in for wire fraud under Title 18, Section 1343 of the U.S. Code.
If you're a felon or a convicted sex offender:
If you're a felon or a convicted sex offender, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE TRUE. Felons and sex offenders who attempt to join TRUE.com are in direct violation of their agreement with TRUE.com.
We can and will:
- shut down your account
- report you to the IC3
- report you to your supervising parole board
- notify your local law enforcement
- pursue civil and criminal penalties to the full extent of the law
TRUE's Member Safety team is dedicated to maintaining an ethical environment for serious singles to meet. Please notify TRUE Security or contact TRUE Customer Care if you suspect that a member is not complying with the member code of ethics or if you have other security concerns or questions.
