Email TRUE about this story

There’s an old theory that says whatever organ you develop first as an embryo is the one you’ll seek to satisfy most as an adult.

Someone is waiting for you.

In other words, if your digestive system forms first, you become obsessed with food. Heart and muscle? You love exercise. But for some of us, it was our ears, or more precisely, that section of the brain that processes sound – music to be exact.

It just moves us, and it makes us want to move.

It’s also the best way to get to know someone. And that’s what TRUE Grind is all about. Click on the image of the CD cover to get a printer-friendly page so you can make your own TRUE Grind CD cover. Then, make your own CD compilation, either by following these suggestions or coming up with your own. There are now several sources to download music legally, such as napster.com and itunes.com.

Present the CD to the person you'd like to get sweaty with. Pop it in, push play and try a little grind of your own

A few “notes” of interest

  • Track 3, Whatever by Imogen Heap, is an artist who deserves more attention than she’s enjoyed thus far. This song is from one of her solo efforts, but she’s also part of Frou Frou (the French word for the sound silk makes when it moves).
  • Track 10 is by Utada, Japan’s answer to Madonna.
  • Track 14, Head, by Tin Star, is a few years old, but I never understood why they didn’t get a lot more air play than they did.
  • There are the obligatory nods to the classic grind music, such as Madonna, along with two tracks that are on heavy rotation in my player right now: Throwing Shapes by Dirty Vegas and True Grit by The Crystal Method.
